INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — If Munich isn’t on the agenda this year, don’t worry, as Indianapolis hosts several Oktoberfest celebrations, offering visitors an array of activities, food and entertainment inspired by the traditional German festival. Here’s a rundown of last-minute events happening across the city.

Yachtoberfest – A Yacht Rock Oktoberfest

Herron-Morton Place Park will host Yachtoberfest on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 3 p.m. until late evening. This event combines yacht rock music with the festive atmosphere of Oktoberfest. Visitors can expect smooth tunes from artists such as Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins, as well as traditional German food such as bratwurst.

Food trucks and local breweries will be on hand throughout the day, offering craft and seasonal beers. A family-friendly “Totoberfest” will provide entertainment for children, including crafts and games. There will also be a Best Sailor contest, where guests are encouraged to dress in nautical-themed Oktoberfest attire.

Oktoberfest at the Indianapolis Liederkranz

Liederkranz’s annual Oktoberfest in Indianapolis takes place on Saturday, September 28th and features live music from the Liederkranz German Band. Visitors can participate in activities such as a stein-holding contest and a traditional German dress contest. The Liederkranz Ladies’ Choir serves a full menu of German dishes and the bar offers a selection of beers and wines. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and admission is free.

Oktoberfest at Monument Circle

On Friday, September 27, the northern half of Monument Circle will host the 14th annual Monument Circle Oktoberfest, presented by the Columbia Club. The event will feature street food, beer and wine, with menu items including bratwurst, cheeseburgers and pretzels. The Indianapolis Liederkranz German Band will perform at 6 p.m. and a keg tapping will take place at 5 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

St. Matthew Oktoberfest

St. Matthew Parish will host its first Oktoberfest with no admission fee on Saturday, Sept. 28. There will be traditional German food and local craft beer, as well as food trucks for those looking for other options. The event will feature live music from Karma at 6 p.m. and a variety of activities for children, including face painting and bouncy houses. A stein-holding contest will be held and televisions will broadcast college football games for fans.

Rathskeller Beer Garden Oktoberfest

The Rathskeller beer garden is hosting its annual Oktoberfest on Friday, September 27th, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event is open to people aged 21 and over and features live music from Der Polkatz.

GermanFestival at the Athenaeum

The following weekend, the Athenaeum hosts its 16th annual GermanFest. The family-friendly event features traditional German food, drinks, dachshund races, and children’s activities. The events take place on Michigan and New Jersey Streets, with the main entrance near the Rathskeller Beer Garden.
