Former President Donald Trump said he does not see himself running again in 2028 if he is unsuccessful in November. “I don’t see that at all,” Trump said in an interview with Sharyl Attkisson. On Election Day 2028, Trump would be 82 years old. Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris accepted CNN’s invitation to a debate on Oct. 23 and challenged Trump to another showdown. The former president argued it was “too late” for more debates because Americans have already begun casting their votes for the 2024 election. House Speaker Mike Johnson on Sunday unveiled a budget bill that would prevent a government shutdown if it is passed by the House and Senate before funds expire on Sept. 30. But even with a potential deal to avoid a funding shortfall, the standard process of shutting down nonessential government functions will soon kick in for all federal government departments and agencies, an administration official told CNN. If lawmakers fail to pass a budget bill, millions of federal workers and military personnel would be affected. Previous shutdowns have also forced the temporary closure of some national parks and historic sites, jeopardized food assistance for low-income Americans and caused flight delays.
