Restaurants in Maine
One of my favorite things to do in my free time is to drive within the state to a new restaurant. My wife and I will drive for hours because we read a review, article, tip, or social media post. It’s fun, adventurous, and always satisfies the palate.
On our trip through Maine, we ate at legendary diners, great pubs, outstanding sandwich shops, and delicious pizza places. There’s no shortage of great places to enjoy a fine meal in the Pine Tree State.
Maine’s restaurant scene
We spend a lot of time discussing and analyzing every aspect of the Maine restaurant scene. Whether it’s Portland, the surrounding areas, Bar Harbor, the Midcoast, Downeast, the Western Foothills, or the South Coast, this state is a goldmine.
Because of this, it’s easy for us Mainers to find our favorites. They may not be right around the corner, but that doesn’t matter. If it’s good, it’s good.
Many of these places are still worth quite a trip for their biggest fans. I’m one of those people. My wife and I don’t just look for new places. We might even head to one of our favorites. And I know we’re not alone in that.
Restaurants in Maine that are worth a visit
That’s why we put out a call to find places that Maine residents are willing to drive at least an hour to visit.
Thanks to our broadcasters’ social media, we can now put some names to these institutions.
Below is a list of many of these restaurants that were recommended to us. They vary in size, concept and location. Some have only recently opened, while others have been community staples for years. However, they are all true Maine originals.
The full list can be found below.
Hope you’re hungry. I’m hungry.
