How will DE Myles Garrett fare against rookie LT Tyler Guyton?
One of the most interesting duels in the season opener will be between DE Myles Garrett and Cowboys rookie LT Tyler Guyton.
The Cowboys selected Guyton with the 29th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, who did not allow a sack in 355 snaps as a pass blocker at Oklahoma during the 2023 season. He is a strong quarterback defender but will have a tough first opponent in Garrett.
Garrett, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, is coming off another dominant season on the Browns’ offensive defense. Garrett has totaled 88.5 sacks since 2017 and has reached double-digit sack totals in each of the last six seasons – he is the only NFL player to record at least 10 sacks in each of the last six seasons (2018-23).
“It’s a new challenge,” Garrett said. “Just like the league is new to him, he’s new to us. We have to prepare for what he brings to the game and the uniqueness he brings. But his skill set and his attributes, he’s bigger, a little more mobile, more athletic and moves pretty well. And he was able to hold his own against a really good pass rush there in Dallas. So he’ll be prepared, but I’m offering a different touch.”
