There’s a reason they make chocolate And Vanilla… We all have preferences when it comes to food, but every now and then you hear someone’s culinary opinion that really makes you think. So Redditor u/deathbykoolaidman asked, “What’s your real opinion on unpopular food?” People had a lot to contribute, including some members of the BuzzFeed community. Here are some of their responses.
.“I hate ketchup, it’s just tomatoes and sugar. It’s disgusting. I eat my fries with hot sauce, and that makes much more sense with potatoes than a sugary tomato sauce.”
.“Sour cream has a drastic different flavor profile than yogurt. I like both, but they should be used for very different purposes. Yogurt doesn’t belong anywhere near a baked potato or soup.”
.“This may sound extremely American, but I can’t pretend I don’t love these fake cheese slices. They may not be ‘real’ cheese, but they are really delicious.”
.“I call red peppers ‘pollutants’ because their flavor transfers to everything they touch.”
.“Many people confuse spicy food with seasoned food. Some people who love spicy food cannot taste what they are cooking other than the spiciness. Their food has no real flavor other than the burning taste in the mouth.”
.“Pancakes, waffles and French toast are not a normal breakfast. They are definitely a dessert.”
.“I like boring, mushy, steamed or boiled frozen vegetables. So, that’s out.”
.“Truffle flavor ruins food. Whether it’s truffle fries, truffle oil on pizza, etc. … It’s supposed to be special and enhance a meal, but in my opinion truffle – anything – just makes the food taste worse.”
.“People love to hate Hawaiian pizza, but pineapple pizza tastes amazing when served with the right toppings. The acidity of the pineapple cuts through the dense dough and cheese. The sweetness of the pineapple pairs well with the spice of a jalapeño.”
.“I once dated a guy who ate just because he needed to survive. He didn’t understand the concept of eating for pleasure and thought it was a waste of money. We obviously weren’t together very long.”
.“Macarons are a terrible dessert. They cost too much and taste like someone slapped mediocre frosting on a giant Froot Loop. Plus, all the flavors taste the same. I found this amazing bakery where everything they sell is amazing. I thought surely *these* macarons would explain the hype. Nope. Still garbage that I paid $30 for.”
.“Not every dish is made better by a piece of cream cheese. I’m looking at you, TikTok chefs…”
.“I don’t like tomatoes on sandwiches. A single slice of tomato makes the bread soggy and there’s nothing worse than soggy sandwich bread.”
.“Pickles ruin food. To me, they’re just crisp vinegar. I can’t even stand the smell of them, let alone the taste. They ruin burgers and sandwiches because they make everything else taste like pickles. If I order something that’s served with pickles, I have to make sure it can be served without. When they touch my food, I still feel the aroma of the pickle on my taste buds.”
.“I like to grate fresh Parmesan for most dishes, but sometimes the Kraft stuff is just right.”
.“I can’t stand the taste of chocolate syrup. When anything ‘chocolaty’ is made with chocolate syrup, it’s very obvious and doesn’t taste good at all.”
.“I can’t stand ziti. There’s no structure whatsoever and nothing holds the sauce to the pasta. There’s nothing about ziti that makes it interesting. It’s just slimy noodles sliding around on the plate.”
.“I refuse to cook anything that has ketchup in the recipe. I can use ketchup as a condiment for many things, but as soon as ketchup is listed as an ingredient, I can’t stand it.”
.“When I make a salad for myself, I chop everything up so that I can eat it with a spoon. I actually don’t like having a huge lettuce leaf stuck on my fork.”
.“A lifetime of boxed mac and cheese. You can take your dry four-cheese mac out of the oven with you. The homemade stuff never has the same magic that a good old box of Kraft offers. I’m a huge cheese lover, but mac and cheese is the only cheese dish I’d rather eat with processed ingredients than the fancy, real version.”
.“Pumpkin spice is THE most overrated flavor.”
.“Scrambled eggs have to be cooked so well that they start to turn brown, then they are perfect. A ‘pudding’ consistency or even slightly moist scrambled eggs are a no-go for me. It’s a question of consistency.”
.“I find bananas gross and overrated and don’t understand their appeal in general. They’re weird and fibrous and I can’t stand the smell. I enjoy a good smoothie, but if there are bananas in it, I’m out.”
