Ole Miss was one of the biggest losers, slipping from sixth to 12th place thanks to a 20-17 loss to Kentucky.

Indiana (No. 23) and UNLV (No. 25) are the new additions to the top 25.

All eyes were on Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where the first big test of the Kalen DeBoer era took place.

The Crimson Tide head coach made fans forget about Nick Saban in the first half. The home team took a 28-0 lead and led by 23 points at halftime.

Then Georgia stormed back in the second half and even took the lead on Dillon Bell’s 67-yard touchdown catch with 2:31 left in the fourth quarter. DeBoer was about to go from being the toast of Tuscaloosa to having some fans probably calling for his job after four games.

Luckily for Alabama, freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams capped an incredible performance by hauling in a deep pass from Jalen Milroe and then pivoting to evade two Georgia defenders en route to a 75-yard touchdown.

The Bulldogs marched to the Tide 20-yard line before quarterback Carson Beck threw an interception that sealed the loss.

In the end, the game mostly confirmed what we already knew rather than revealing new truths. For at least one half each, Alabama and Georgia looked like top-five teams, and a rematch in the SEC title game or the College Football Playoff could await.

For Ole Miss, however, Saturday might have been a reality check.

The Rebels went 4-0 in their non-conference games, winning by an average of 49.5 points. Then they faced an SEC opponent and their potent offense seemed a little more boring.

Quarterback Jaxson Dart went 18 of 27 for 261 yards and a touchdown and was sacked four times. Running back Henry Parrish Jr. managed 62 yards and a score on 13 carries.

Even if Caden Davis hits his 48-yard field goal in the final minute of the game and Ole Miss wins in overtime, the team’s performance is a worrisome sign with LSU, Oklahoma and Georgia all ahead on the schedule.

Ole Miss wasn’t the only undefeated team to fall in Week 5.

Illinois lost 21-7 to Penn State. Utah ultimately couldn’t overcome the effects of quarterback Cam Rising’s absence and lost 23-10 to Arizona. And Louisville’s late comeback failed in a 31-24 loss to Notre Dame.

The Fighting Illini probably performed the worst, as they only mustered 219 yards against the Nittany Lions. Their surprise attempt appeared to be perfected late in the first half when they turned a 1st-and-goal from Penn State’s 2-yard line into a missed 45-yard field goal.

Looking ahead to Week 6, there is no matchup on the schedule as colossal as Alabama versus Georgia.

The most notable matchup will take place in College Station, Texas, where Texas A&M hosts Missouri, 4-0. Iowa’s move to Ohio State could also be interesting, as the Hawkeyes have played close games against the Buckeyes in the past.

It’s also worth watching every rematch of the previous year’s national championship game. With Michigan vs. Washington, there’s the added subplot of how potent the Wolverines’ offense is continues to occur after Alex Orji Davis replaced Warren as quarterback. Head coach Sherrone Moore is under enough pressure as it is. A loss to the Huskies would raise additional questions about whether he was the right candidate to replace Jim Harbaugh.
