2 dead in fiery crash near US-60 exit

Two people were killed in a Sept. 27 crash at the US 60 exit and Country Club Drive, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

Two people are dead after authorities say a driver ran a red light and caused a crash near a Mesa highway.

The accident occurred just after 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 27 near US 60 and Country Club Drive.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety states that a red car and an SUV were stopped at a red light on the exit to Country Club Drive when a white pickup truck ran a red light and struck the car from behind. The collision caused the car to be thrown into the SUV.

Two people who were in the car died at the scene of the accident. They have not been identified. DPS says they are working to determine if there were any other passengers in the car.

The drivers of the pickup and SUV were hospitalized.

Investigators believe the pickup driver was impaired.

The exit to US 60 and Country Club Drive eastbound is closed.
