While I don’t do my weekly shopping there, I definitely rely on dollar stores for many quick purchases. And why not? First, they are EVERYWHERE in Michigan! Consider where you live and how far you are from a dollar store. Again, EVERYWHERE. But just because you can’t miss them doesn’t mean they’re full of bargains. While there’s plenty to save, dear thrifty Michigander, there are also some things you should never buy at a dollar store.

Like you, I’m shocked every time I go grocery shopping and see how drastically prices have increased in recent years. According to Yahoo Finance, the price of eggs has increased 54% since 2020. A box of cereal that cost $4 is now a $5+ box of Captain Crunch. The generic version, Corporal Crack, costs just $3 at the dollar store. Why not save a few bucks?
Now, what you don’t know about no-name merchant Captain Crunch is that he has less respect for your rough mouth than the good old Captain himself. I don’t recommend him and neither does your dentist.

As I stroll down the aisles of one of my favorite Chuck A Dollar stores, I occasionally have to remind myself that cheap doesn’t necessarily mean quality.
