‘1000-Lb Sisters’ star Amy Slaton leaves zoo on stretcher after camel bite

“1000-Lb Sisters” star Amy Slaton was transported from a Tennessee zoo on Monday, September 2, after she was reportedly bitten by a camel.

The 36-year-old reality TV star is seen on a stretcher leaving the Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo, Tennessee, in a photo obtained by TMZ.

The photo shows Slaton with what appears to be a makeshift bandage made from a piece of cloth or clothing just below her right elbow after she was allegedly bitten by a camel at the zoo.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to TMZ, Slaton was seen walking around the zoo’s parking lot with a shirt wrapped around her arm before emergency services arrived on the scene to treat her.

As if a camel bite wasn’t bad enough, Slaton was arrested shortly after her medical treatment when local sheriffs allegedly found psychedelic mushrooms and marijuana in her car. According to TMZ, the illegal substances were clearly visible to officers.

The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department commented on the incident in a statement posted on Facebook on Monday, saying, “It was no ordinary Labor Day in Crockett County.”

“The MPs were asked to come to the Safari Park where a guest was allegedly bitten by a camel,” the statement said.

“Upon arrival, officers were immediately surprised by suspicious odors coming from the guest’s vehicle.”

Slaton was arrested for illegal possession of Schedule I and VI drugs and two counts of child endangerment.

Police told TMZ that she was charged with child endangerment because two children were in the car with her when officers arrived at the scene and allegedly found the drugs.

However, Slaton wasn’t the only one arrested. A man who was in the car with her, Brian Scott Lovvorn, was arrested on the same charge. The two were booked into the Crockett County Jail after Slaton was released from the hospital.

Slaton has two sons with her ex-husband Michael Halterman – three-year-old Gage and two-year-old Glenn. It is currently unknown whether Gage and Glenn were the two children who were in the car with her at the Safari Park.

Slaton’s ex had already filed for a restraining order against the TV star in March 2023 when he filed for divorce. The divorce became final in September 2023.

As for the camel bite, one of the owners of Tennessee Safari Park – which has a drive-in zoo and a regular walk-in zoo – disputed Slaton’s claim that she was bitten by a camel there.

Speaking to TMZ, Jon Conley insisted that the TLC star could not have been bitten by one of the park’s camels. Conley believes Slaton’s injury was above the elbow and “does not indicate a camel bite as the skin is torn and there is no bruised tissue.”

Conley further said that of the thousands of visitors the zoo attracts each year, no one has ever been bitten by a camel. He also said the zoo has not found any surveillance footage of the alleged camel attack, and claimed Slaton could not identify where in the park she was allegedly bitten.
