Back to school: feasting and shopping

This is the fifth year that Turquoise Peacock Boutique is hosting this event. Vendors at the event include Penny Royal Bakery, Kaza Fused Jewelry, and Pure & Simple Candles. There will be a mimosa bar at the event and all teachers will receive 10% off all boutique purchases and will be entered into a drawing.

Fun family event

Tutoring company LearnLee is celebrating the start of the school year with this event, which will feature free pizza, games, sensory play and local vendors. Parents can bring their own beverages as well as chairs, blankets and snacks to relax on the lawn during the event. The first 50 families to respond on Facebook will receive prizes.

Author visit: Vicki Gardiner

Meet Gardiner, author of Sam’s Invisible Shield and trained professional counselor, at Paper Bark Birch Children’s Bookstore. She will read her new book and talk about managing mental health and kindness.

Fragrances and sweets ATX

Cake Classes TX is hosting a workshop at Buff City Soap. Participants will learn how to add floral designs to cupcakes and how to scent and decorate their own bath bombs. The class is suitable for participants of all skill levels and wine and charcuterie will be served.

The Teddy Bear Train

The Austin Steam Train Association is hosting a three-and-a-half-hour ride to raise money for the Center for Child Protection. There will be free lemonade on board the train. Participants are asked to wear costumes and bring their own teddy bears for the ride.

Break 4 Paws

Flow Yoga is hosting a fundraising yoga class with proceeds benefiting the Central Texas SPCA, an animal shelter in Leander. Before and after the class, there will be several shelter dogs present for participants to meet. The class is suitable for both beginners and advanced students. The event is led by yoga instructor Nicki Simonich. Tickets are sold on a donation scale.

Austin-Leander Gun Fair

American Gun Shows will host its first event at the Premier Athletic Complex in Leander. There will be a raffle of three guns on the second day of the show.

Children’s special sale

Fairytale Threads will host the event at Austin Sports Center Cedar Park. Clothing for newborns through teens and maternity wear will be available for purchase. Books, children’s gear, shoes, strollers and toys will also be available for purchase.

Liberty Hill opened

Liberty Hill Masonic Lodge #432 is hosting its first golf tournament. The event will be held at the Delaware Springs Golf Course and participants will compete in teams of four. The top three teams will receive prizes.

Hill Country Shootout Barbecue Cooking Contest

Hosted by the Leander VFW 10427 Auxiliary, the event will feature vendors, a mobile blood donation station, a steak dinner and karaoke on the first day. The second day will feature vendors, live music, outdoor games, a bouncy castle, a live auction and raffle, and a cooking competition with food judging and awards ceremony.
